Workers of Worcester is a documentary photography series of portraits and interviews of frontline workers to honor the humanity of those who risk their lives and provide a space for their voices to be heard.
"Deployed"
I got deployed to another facility to help out. It was a good thing but at the end of the day it was a hard thing for me. I was at a psych ward where I was working with covid positive patients. It was really hard switching my shifts and wearing a mask eight hours a day and a gown in a place that was very hot-- they didn’t give us water to prevent covid. Patients were very sick. I saw a lot of screaming, tackling, and restraints. It was stressful. I didn’t want to get covid. Even the main nurse was complaining. I know that people who were working there quit. That’s why they asked people to be deployed there. When you see your manager being stressed it gets you stressed.
Everytime after work, I would go home and try to meditate, play chill beats, and calm down-- stuff like that-- to help my mind. I’m refreshed by the next morning. I hope things will get back to normal like before. I miss the normality of things. I’m tired of the new systems and telehealth visits and all that.
